Veronica Holly, Advisor
Veronica Holly is Assistant Director of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME), Teachers College, Columbia University. She is responsible for the program development and oversight of the Institute’s supplementary education initiatives and management of the Edmund W. Gordon Campus of Teachers College, located in central Harlem. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Syracuse University and her M.A. in Education Policy from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is currently a Doctoral Candidate in the Organization and Leadership Department at Teachers College. Her research interests include school/community partnerships, positive youth development,

Ms. Holly's professional background bridges New York City's politics, community and education. She was a Site Director for the NYC Summer Youth Employment Program in upper Manhattan; an Assistant to Governor Mario Cuomo's Advisory Committee for Black Affairs; and served as a Program Analyst for the New York State Division for Youth. Prior to joining IUME, Ms. Holly served as Research Coordinator for the National Center for Children and Families, at Teachers College, where she coordinated its national child and family policy summer fellowship program for graduate students, entitled "Putting Children First." She has directed and developed academic enrichment programs for at-risk youth; provided technical assistance and evaluation to community based organizations serving children, youth, and families; served as manager for a successful District Leader political campaign; and served as a consultant and proposal writer for education initiatives. She has organized numerous community and charitable events and chaired the New Democratic Club's Education Committee in Harlem. Ms. Holly's presentations include "Ruby's Long Walk Comes of Age: The Impact of Court Remedies to Integrate Schools & the Policies That Followed" (Brown vs. Board of Education 50th Anniversary Commemoration at Columbia University) and "Effective Partnership with Community-Based Organizations: What Works and Why" (Linkages to Learning 21st Century Community Learning Centers Conference in Atlanta, Georgia). She is a currently on leave from the Upper Manhattan Rotary Club-International, and is a Board Member for In the Spirit of the Children, Inc. Ms. Holly is a native New Yorker and a homeowner in Harlem.
